Business and Customer information

The first thing on your electrician invoice template is a placeholder for your company information. Once you’ve downloaded it, personalise it with the necessary details for your business. 

Add in your business name,  Australian or New Zealand Business Number (ABN or NZBN), your business address, contact details, and your logo if you want a bit of extra personalisation on your electrical invoice template.

This is especially important for clients who work with various businesses, as your details need to be clear on the invoice so there’s no ambiguity. Once you’ve input this information, save it as a master copy. From there, simply use that as your electrician invoice template!

Customers want to know what they’re paying for when they get an invoice. If you’ve used specific materials or replaced an item, list it on the invoice. 

Additionally, if you charge by labour hours or have flat fees, such as a call-out fee, it’s important to include that in the description and pricing. For the template example, we’ve listed the call-out fee as a single unit, whereas the labour is charged per hour

Pricing details

Now that you have your descriptions and breakdown of every billable item, it’s time for the all-important pricing. Pricing details include the number of units of each item, shortened to Qty. on our template, and the price per item. 

Unit details can be put in the description if specification is required for what quantity counts. This is where codes can come in handy, as each code stands for a unit of pricing.

Legal and warranty information

If there are concerns in your business terms and conditions that you want to reiterate, put these in the additional terms/information section below the pricing section. Ideally, warranty and liability information should have been covered in the initial agreement, and these additional notes can act as a reminder for your customers. 

If your business is registered for GST, you’ll need to include GST in all of your invoices. Contractors and businesses that earn less than $75,000 per year (and that’s income, not profit) don’t need to register for GST. However, businesses that earn more income than that will need to be registered for GST and charge 10% on invoices. 

Payment terms and instructions

What invoice is without payment details? We’ve included a key area for your payment terms and details on our electrician invoice template. Ideally, you and your customers will be on the same page regarding payment terms and conditions before the job is agreed to, but it’s necessary to repeat the payment terms to make it crystal clear!

Include payment terms and instructions and provide the customer with an all-in-one invoice so they are aware of what they’re paying for and how to pay it. This also protects your business with additional reminders, especially if a customer doesn’t want to adhere to your agreed terms. Better to have more paperwork as backup!

Branding
